Marvel to Unveil Gay Captain America Character
Marvel is slated to unveil a recent queer character during Pride Month.
Marvel Comics announced that Aaron Fischer, a gay teenager, known as Captain America of the Railways, will join the original Captain America, Steve Rogers, in The United States of Captain America, a series launching in June that explores the heros quest to detect his stolen shield. According to the series writers, the teen is on a mission to protect homeless and runaway individuals, which touches on an issue disproportionately affecting numerous LGBTQ people annually in the US.
“Aaron is inspired by heroes of the queer community: activists, leaders, and everyday folks pushing for a improve life,” Joshua Trujillo, a writer of the comic, said in a written statement. “He stands for the oppressed and the forgotten. I hope his debut story resonates with readers and helps inspire the next generation of heroes.”
Jan Bazaldua, the artist behind the queer character, said its important to highlight a hero who helps the most marginalized in society.

Marvel announced that the first gay Captain America in the superhero’s year history will be revealed in an upcoming issue.
In the limited series The United States of Captain America, Steve Rogers (the original Captain America) and other characters who donned the costume leave on a road trip across the U.S. to uncover his stolen shield. Along the way, they encounter everyday people from all walks of life who’ve taken up the mantle of Captain America to defend their communities, Marvel said.
One of those everyday people is the modern character Aaron Fischer, a.k.a. Captain America of the Railways, a fearless teen who stepped up to protect fellow runaways and the unhoused. Fischer will also become the first LGBTQ+ character in the comics’ history to tote the mantle of Captain America.
