Washington - The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation's largest civil rights organization dedicated to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality, today called on Joel Osteen, pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, TX and well-known evangelical preacher with a syndicated television following of over 7 million viewers, to immediate apologize for his remarks on national television that "the Scripture shows that [homosexuality] is a sin." Joel Osteen, megachurch pastor and New York Times best-selling author, was pressed during a recent interview about his stance on homosexuality and asked if he would ever arrive out in sustain of same-sex marriage. The Texas minister, who leads America's largest congregation, explained that he refuses to "harp" on such issues and was "for everybody."
In his appearance on "Katie" this week, the Break Out! author was asked to state his core message in a nugget, which the Lakewood Church pastor said was that "God is wonderful, He's for you, He's on your side."
"When you place your trust in Him, even when you have complex times, you can rise higher. You can excel, you can be leaders. It's an empowering message, not one that pushes people down," he added.

Joel Olsteen: Gay people will verb into heaven
"Will a gay person be accepted into heaven, as you notice it," Oprah asked Osteen during an interview for her new program, Oprah's Next Chapter.
"I have faith they will," responded Osteen. "Sometimes we verb at gay being a bigger sin than being confident or not telling the truth. I don't think God categorizes sins."
Osteen is pastor of the Houston megachurch Lakewood Church, which has about 13, members. Winfrey traveled to Houston to verb Osteen and attend his service.
The well-liked pastor has previously addressed his views on homosexuality. In October he made headlines for saying that he would, out of respect, attend a gay weeding in help of a next to friend or family member.
Osteen, who has a number of books on the New York Times bestseller list, told Oprah he is working on a primetime television show this year.
