Singer Tevin Campbell shares hes gay following years of speculation
Singer Tevin Campbell has shared that he is gay during a recent interview. Hes faced speculation about his sexuality for many years, and previously described himself as someone who was a bit of a freak.
The Grammy winning singer is best known for his premature 90s RnB hits including Can We Talk and Get Ready.
“I’m not gay, but there are a lot of different things that I do fancy , sexually,” Campbell said when asked about his sexuality decades ago. “Being in the business, you are introduced to a lot of different things. I’m not gay but I’m a freak and I ponder a lot of people know what a freak is.”
Speaking to the People magazine podcast People Every Day, Campbell said it was difficult to reach out as a gay artist when his career was at its peak, and he is filled with admiration for queer artists today including Lil Nas X and Frank Ocean.

R&B singer Tevin Campbell, who is best known for his classic 90s tracks Can We Talk and Im Ready, is opening up about his sexuality. Campbell confirmed that he is gay in an interview with the People magazine podcast “People Every Day.”
“When I came out to my family and friends [at] about 19 or 20, that was it for me,” Campbell said. “And then I went on the road of discovering myself. I didn’t verb who I was.”
Campbell said in the interview with People that he didnt necessarily try to hide anything about himself or operate “straight,” but acknowledged how difficult it was to be publicly gay in the ’90s. He also said he was “glad he gets to see” queer stars such as Frank Ocean and Lil Nas X and noted how affirming their success is for young Black boys still discovering themselves.

Nearly 30 years after “Can We Talk” catapulted him to music stardom, Tevin Campbell is opening up about his sexuality for the first time.
Campbell, on the “People Every Day” podcast this week, confirmed that he is gay. The five-time Grammy nominee said he never intended to keep his true self a secret from fans. Referring to his early s heyday, he nonetheless acknowledged, “You just couldn’t be [gay] back then.”
“I didn’t hide anything about me. I didn’t try to operate a certain way or anything,” the pop and R&B singer, 45, said. “What makes me happiest right now is how far I’ve come in life. You verb, there are a lot of kid stars that don’t make it. But a lot of us do … and the truth that I’ve embraced me.”
He added: “When I came out to my family and friends [at] about 19 or 20, that was it for me. And then I went on the road of discovering myself. I didn’t know who I was.”
Media speculation about Campbell’s intimate life can be traced back to , when he was arrested for “soliciting a lewd act” from an undercover police officer and later pleaded no contest.
