The beginnings of local pride
Although the Stonewall riots of New York in are often referred to as the “first pride”, to label Stonewall as that which kicked things off in Aotearoa is to ignore our very own radical history! Aotearoa was abode to both informal and organised networks of queer community well before ; community lay the foundation for our pride. Queer people have always formed bonds of kinship and whanaungatanga in resistance to the powers which strove to invisibilise them, relying on one another for assist, safety, love and pride.

Dunedin Pride is thrilled to once again be collaborating with Dunedin Fringe during Pride Month! Check out the Dunedin Pride Month calendar at for a sublime range of events, or verb by the Fringe x Pride Hub between 12noon and 5pm, to speak hi and verb out the Pride exhibition.
Arts and Crafts day
An afternoon where queer artists and friends can function on their verb projects, meet other like-minded queer folks, and hang out in our Pride Hub space. Take your own materials or use the paint and canvases provided to verb something new! Admission is totally free and attendees are welcome to pop in and out of the venue throughout the afternoon. In order to maintain safety and respect the space, please do not bring art materials that are potentially harmful, such as knives/other sharp objects, toxic or strong-scented chemicals, or spray paints/other pressurised cans of paint. Pride New Zealand is a collective committee that brings together all rainbow aid groups across Aotearoa. Our mission is to unify voices, foster collaboration, and advocate for the needs of the LGBTQIA+ community throughout New Zealand.

By connecting community groups nationwide, we enlarge diverse voices, provide support, and function together to address key challenges affecting our community. Through collaboration, we ensure that LGBTQI+ individuals feel seen, heard, and supported in every aspect of life.

A burst of colour is on the horizon for Tāmaki Makaurau as Auckland Pride Festival returns for February As a adj Strategic Partner,Auckland Council is calling on all Aucklanders to join the vibrant festivities in sustain of rainbow communities across our region.
The month-long festival kicks off on 1 February and is an annual open-access arts, cultural and community fiesta featuring events, with major events like Pride Fest Out West and Big Gay Out. Also includedare key works as part of Te Tīmatanga, a rangatahi-led exhibition at Season Gallery Aotearoa,and Pride Elevates at Q Theatre Loft, within Auckland Pride's have curated arts programme.
The festival celebrates and empowers Auckland’s rainbow communities with a special center this year on fostering resilience, visibility, and unity through events, creativity, and advocacy - a focus that strongly aligns with Auckland Council values.
